Narwhalz at Space 1026

Summer is coming up and with it another show at Photo West Gallery, entitled "The Girl Can't Help It" (previously called
You Go Girl", previously called "Girl Talk"), all about young girl culture. One of the artists in this show is Brian Blomerth, also known as Narwhalz, the experimental game boy music project from Richmond, Va. His visual work spans from ink line drawings to psychedelic photoshop mash ups, to anything involving pomeranians.

But this Friday (May 9th) he's playing at Space 1026. To check out more about him on the web links are provided below.

Live With It Artist

So the CFEVA show "Live With It" (May 9th at PhotoWest Gallery) is coming up so for this post I wanted to feature another artist from the show.  Her name is Brooke Hine and she makes sculptures and ceramics.

They're really beautiful, intricate pieces inspired by nature.
You can see more of her work at www.inliquid.com/artist/hine_brooke/hine.php
And go to www.cfeva.org to find out more about the show, tickets and more artists from the show.

Upcoming Show

Starting May 9 the Center for Emerging Visual Artists will be having a show of their current artists at the Photo West Gallery, showing in many mediums from photography to illustration and sculpture.  The CFEVA has a lot of programs helping developing artists, which include mentoring and showing their work in galleries.  So for this post I thought I'd write about on the artists in this show, Keiko Miyamori.

She makes dark paintings and illustrations as well as incredible sculptures of trees and roots bound in resin, as if they are fragile and are to be kept on display.

Visit her website (www.keikomiyamori.com) and see her work at the CFEVA opening May 9, tickets are needed to enter, see the CFEVA website for more info.

Welcome to the new blog/Out of the Blue Opening

Welcome to the blog for the Photo West Gallery in Philadelphia, this blog will have announcements about new shows and events at the gallery, as well as art events in the city. Located at 3625 Lancaster Ave (West Philadelphia), Photo West has been showing work and has a member of the Philadelphia arts community for 8 years, and is run and founded by photographer Laurence Salzmann.

Tonight is the opening of the Out of the Blue show with photos inspired by Randy Dalton's Do Blue initiative. The reception is from 5pm-9pm tonight, with the gallery open every Saturday from 12noon-5pm. Over 25 photographers are showing work inspired by blue, whether as a color that will bring more attention to the Philadelphia art scene as is Randy Dalton's objective, or how ever the artist sees the color.
